Traysh – “Paint Sink”

A heady, thick offering from new Chicago group Traysh surfaced over the holiday, with a new album slated for release on Ryley Walker’s Husky Pants imprint. The band features Walker’s longtime collaborator Andrew Scott Young alongside Daniel Van Duerm (KVL) and Ben Baker Billington (Quicksails). The trio mix the fluidity of the cosmic arcana with a psychedelic strain of jazz, pushing towards jam, but getting lost in the pinball ping of rhythm with an emphasis on keys that brings to mind Medeski, Martin and Wood if they were sucked through the circuits and spit out into the spools of a sweat box mixtape of ‘70s jazz and aughts electronic noise. The band’s sophomore LP, Shady Favorites, arrives July 28th from Husky Pants.
