The Soundcarriers – “Waves”
This is a nice surprise this week. I’ve been a fan of UK psych collective Soundcarriers for sometime, but really latched hold on their Ghost Box release Entropicalia from 2018. The band got a nice boost from the short-lived, but much loved (and sorely missed) show Lodge 49, finding their brand of wistful psychedelia a perfect match for the shows themes of transcendent working class alchemy. The band announced a follow-up to the album, which includes some of the works that made it into the show. In January the band will release Wilds and the first peek into their kaleidoscopic new work is “Waves.” Like much of the band’s catalog the song is hung on baroque guitar, propulsive organs, and an out-of-time sense of psychedelia that’s draped in a cold humidity and shot through a percolating prism of sound. Can’t wait to have the full album land, but so far this track is racking up repeated listens. Wilds is out January 21st. Headphones highly recommended!
