The Royal Family – “Metamorphosis”

A good fix of Baroque psychedelia for a Monday morning right here. The Royal Family is a new outfit that brings together quite a few familiar faces from the Canadian psych contingent. Featuring members of ROY, Possum, Hieronymus Harry, and the Idée Fixe Records crew, the band finds themselves enmeshed in the warbled, sun-softened end of the psych-pop parking lot. The first single from the band, “Metamorphosis,” digs deep into the hazy end of ’67-’68, touches of Idle Race, The Smoke, and JK & Co swirling through the speakers. The band has a full length on the way, but for right now just the single’s available. Keep an eye on ‘em. The world can always use a bit more melted wax psych wielders.
