Smoke Bellow – “Anniversary”
by Andy
A slow groover lands as the second single from Smoke Bellow’s Open For Business today. Built on a gently loping bass line, the song unfolds like the opening of a strange and pungent flower. Synth’s squirm and shake, vibrate and collapse. Scribbles of guitar dart in erratic loops, but with a whimsical sway. The band embraces the unvarnished ends of post-punk in a way that few of their contemporaries have — letting the freedom of the form allow them to mix and match sounds and push out the edges of pop’s hold until they bulge uncomfortably. The accompanying video is a barrage of color and movement, a fitting paring with the song’s undulating edge. The new album is out September 17th from Trouble in Mind.
