Powers/Rolin Duo – “Peridot (excerpt)”
by Andy
Plenty of exciting new albums on the way, and I’m thrilled to see a new one from favorites Powers/Rolin Duo. The pair are taking a heavier turn to their often elegiac folk this time around. Jen’s dulcimer still sparkles to life, but on “Peridot,” Matt’s guitar brings a meditative, tectonic tone as the piece moves on. The song, rooted in lava floes and naturally destructive forces is, by turns, itself a force of nature. The record finds the band in an expansive mood, with two side-long pieces making up the record, a heroic effort in their already ambitious catalog. You can hear an excerpt from “Peridot” below and behold the full splendor when the album, Clearing, is released June 21st on Astral Editions.
