Aussie trio Mod Con bring a brooding and sinewy new single today, the first taste of their upcoming sophomore LP Modern Condition, out in October from Poison City Records. The track garrotes hooks with a razor-edged guitar, expanding on the brittle post-punk from their debut. With a muscular, undulating bassline the song builds tension until it threatens to break but the band keeps it under wraps, only letting off the vice a bit with the breaks in their claw-scratched vocals. I was a fan of the debut, and it certainly didn’t get enough love Stateside, but hoping that they can get a wider latch on the world outside their native Australia with this one.
