Michael Hurley – “Boulevard”

Avatar

Snock returns and we’re all better for it. After a string of reissues through Feeding Tube, The Time of the Foxgloves marks the first new Michael Hurley album since 2009 and at this point in his illustrious career, its all worth the wait. “Boulevard” comes easing through the Juniper, a percolating folk number that bobs its head to the tangle of banjo strings and lets Hurley’s fermented rasp lead the way. There’s feeling like the song may have always existed, traveling between atoms in the ionosphere until a conduit of chance connected it directly to Hurley’s and let it lay to tape. Its the kind of old-time songbook sweetener that we need right now — a flower-laced charmer in every way. The new album is out December 10th on No Quarter (who are having a hell of a year), and its recommended you get it on the top of the wantlist.
