To mark what would have been Michael Chapman’s 81st birthday, Tompkins Square released a posthumous follow-up to his 2015 LP of instrumental meditations for the label, Fish. Titled Another Fish (fittingly) the album finds the guitar great in fine form, winding through labyrinthine guitar takes that only serve to cement his legendary status. Though the record comes without his wit in the titles, the unadorned tracks offer up some of Chapman’s most immersive playing in some time. The standout is certainly the 11+ minute centerpiece at #4, a smoked-glass blues that winds around the listener in tightening coils. The record is out now in its entirety and as it seems there’s another Bandcamp Friday on the horizon, maybe get this one on your list!
