John Andrews & The Yawns – “Checks In The Mail”

Avatar

The first single from the upcoming John Andrews & The Yawns record finds the songwriter reclining further into the plush orchestrations that began to crop up on Cookbook. Couched in strings and strums, “Checks In The Mail” is a heartsick swoon through Bacharach, Nilsson, and Francoise Hardy territory. The song’s sense of yearning is draped over every second, a classic pop song that feels torn out of the past. Adorned with Andrews’ velvet croon and a tinge of ennui, the song’s melancholy is a constant comfort. The new album, Love For The Underdog, is out April 28th from Woodsist.
