Itasca – “Imitation of War”

Been a couple of years now since Kayla Cohen’s Itasca has graced the scene, and its nice to have a new single from her this morning. The title track, “Imitation of War,” from her upcoming LP finds Kayla slipping into a new guise musically, moving away from some of the more buttoned-up folk of her past for some ruby-hued guitar tones, letting the lyrics get lost in the refractions. The song chews on notions of chasing the muse, looking for self and sanctuary, while also pursuing new territory. It’s a rather shimmering bit of pop that stands out in Cohen’s catalog, and a harbinger of what’s to come on the new album. Imitation of War is out February 9th on Paradise of Bachelors.
