Gnod – “Pilgrim’s Promise”

Another longtime favorite with a new album on the way as news comes down from Rocket Recordings that Gnod are back in 2024. The band’s been leaning into the noise floor over the past few releases, but for the new album they’re deep into the Popul Vuh valley, letting out a fifteen-minute first taste of the upcoming Spot Land. The track builds through buried incantations, a slow sweep of guitar, and a storm-worn demeanor. “Pilgrim’s Progress” quivers as it climbs the mountain of sound, leading the listener either to enlightenment or doom. The band has walked through many phases of madness, but this one might feel like a peak. The new album is out May 31st from Rocket Recordings.
