Drugdealer – “Lip Service”

Avatar

Michael Collins is a chameleon of ‘70s sounds, weaving his way through Nilsson, Van Morrison, 10CC and The Dan, but he’s not really dabbled too heavily in power pop. Along with his songwriting foil Scott Archdale, Collins sat down to draw out a new song and in the process the pair find themselves working through the raw swagger of The Cars and the pent-up persuasion of Nick Lowe. As with most genre explorations, Drugdealer’s foray into the fold finds him pulling off the premise without a hitch. Feeling like a one-off kindred spirit to his country cover of Honeybus, it’s often Collins’ least penned-in moments that turn out to be his best. The albums are always great but it would be fun to see a singles collection from Drugdealer with a ‘spin the genre’ wheel approach or some deeper full album genre dives. I’d go for a full Drugdealer country album or a full power pop album after hearing this cut. The new single is out now from Mexican Summer.
