Doug Paisley – “Say What You Like”

It’s been a few years since the comforting croon of Doug Paisley has wafted out of the speakers, but he returns today with news of a new album and a new single that’s dipped in smoke, whiskey, and wool. A tempered country tale of loss and coping, “Say What You Like,” feels a bit more communal than the raw intimacy of 2018’s Starter Home. Paisley’s rambling guitar, a stage-side shuffle of organ, and just the right smoke curls of twang place this among his best. With his last album, Paisley cemented his status as a scarred troubadour, carving his initials on country-folk with a steady hand and a heavy heart. Say What You Like starts out strong with a new set of songs meant to help the sadness soak into the soul. The new album is out March 17th from Outside Music.
