Circles Around The Sun – “Outer Boroughs”

Seems a new album is on the way from Circles Around The Sun, which always stands as a reason to celebrate. The West Coast collective trades in slippery psychedelics, splitting their sound between hues of Herbie, Stevie, and a post-Floyd offset of oil-slicked organs. Funk, psych, disco, and soul jazz all seem to seep into their sound, fleshed out into the infinite in the live space. The band has continued to expand their sound in the wake of founder Neal Casal’s death in 2019, and this will be the band’s first album without any contributions from him. In the wake of that tragedy, the band continues to crystalize his vision, injecting cosmic ripples into psych-improv spaces. The new album, Language, is out spring 2023.
