Bitchin’ Bajas – “Outer Spaceways Incorporated”

Avatar

Well this is a nice one to find floating around the ether. Bitchin’ Bajas have been Spaceways cartographers for sometime, but it seems now they’re mapping an original system, creating a tape of immersions into the Sun Ra songbook for release on an upcoming cassette. They soak the Baja beacon in the full spectrum of Ra’s immense catalog and the first peek turns the dial to the ‘90s to pick up a portion of the Space Is The Place film soundtrack and stretch it out of its jazz origins and into a more molten form. The original’s sprightly pace is slowed and syruped, turning June Tyson’s vocal inflections into an Ambien-amble through the ectoplasmic mirror. The album, Switched On Ra, comes out October 29th on Drag City, just in time to hip the trick or treaters in your neighborhood to a midnight mass of Baja gone Ra to soothe their sugar shock comedown.
