Beings – “Flowers That Talk”
No Quarter’s always snagging the good ones and the latest addition to the roster sees Steve Gunn, Jim White, Zoh Amba, and Shazad Ismaily connect for a new outfit that explores the intersection between jazz, psych, no wave and pop. The band entered the studio with no hard limitations. Amba had some ideas, but without the restraint of expectation, the quartet were free to explore the concentric circles of their personal influences. The band shows both the instrumental and vocal side of their ourvre today with two new tracks. “Flowers That Talk” eases into view on Ismaily’s synth clouds before Amba’s vocals come in, assured and aloof. The guitar tangles with White’s drums before Amba sears the track with sax bleats full of heat. The track flashes back to the acerbic end of the ’70s, a cut that’s studied, but never stilted. The new record, There Is A Garden, is out June 7th from No Quarter.
