嵓宫 – “舟 ”
Stumbled on this one this week and it’s been an excellent curio. Presumably (going by the initials listed in the credits) this is an offshoot of De Lorians. The band reposted the cuts last week and it shares quite a bit with the De Lorians’ psych/jazz sound. Subtract a bit of the Canterbury wobble and add an ‘80s Moroder gloss and that seems to be hitting the same stride of 嵓宫 (Ganguu). The latest single in their trio of demos and studio jams is the most refined. “舟” (Boat) tips into view with a heady kratrock pulse, but quickly mutates into something beholden to other impulses — adding in a vocoder vocal before lighting the match on sax skronk and a heavier guitar scorch that swerves away from the icy environs conjured up by the opening half. De Lorians have been pretty patient with their own works, following up their excellent S//T album with a 2022 EP that would act as the last recordings by the full original band. Ganguu looks to be primarily the work of Takefumi Ishida and Soya Nogami and these first few pieces feel like there’s something good on the way. Dip in early and enjoy and keep an eye on ’em.
