Longtime RSTB faves The Cowboys return with one of their most massive and ambitious albums yet. Recorded remote from the band members’ far flung locales and assembled into a 20-track torrent of garage-soul stunners, the new record, Captain’s Easy Downfall, should keep the kids who’ve been waiting since Sultans of Squat happy. The band keeps the flame soaked and saturated in the kinetic kerosene that’s fueled the sound over the years, bounding out of the speakers with the kind of scrappy pop energy I’ve come to expect from the Midwest’s best. First single, “The Hate In Your Heart” opens up the new album with mountain-sized strums and the indelible vocals of Keith Harman. A positive shot in the arm in the face of a measurably terrible year, this might be just the lifeline to get you though the day, week, or year.
