The Cords – “I’m Not Sad”

It’s a double dose of Slumberland today and we’re starting things off with the infectious jangle of The Cords. The song is called, “I’m Not Sad,” and honestly it seems damn near impossible to feel anything other than elated while the single is on the speakers. The Scottish sister duo winks at prime 80s indie pop, reeling in the sunshine strums of Talulah Gosh, Tiger Trap, and The Primitives. There’s no shortage of jangled juice in the singles stream these days, but few make if feel as effortless and effervescent as Eva and Grace. Reference points aside, the band just sounds like they’re having the time of their lives, strumming to make each other smile and dipping it all in a layer of saccharine sparkle. The band’s eponymous debut album is out September 26th from Skep Wax and Slumberland.
