Monnone Alone – “St Mary’s Pass”

A late addition to the video roster from Monnone Alone gives good reason to dip back into their recent album, Here Comes The Afternoon. Midpoint melter, “St Mary’s Pass,” jangles easy, stuck to a steady beat and buoyed by a subtle stab of horns. The song’s an ode to a particularly tricky stretch of Tasmanian road and a rental car with an insatiable need for gas, a scrape that songwriter Mark Monnone barely breezed out of at the time. The video gives his dilemma a cinematic squint, full of colorful characters and faded hues. The song pokes its head in the midst of the band’s new album, out now from Meritorio and Lost and Lonesome Records.
