Modern Nature – “Source”

Another great single soars out of the upcoming new Modern Nature record. Embracing smoother lines than their last few, the upcoming Heat Warps burns down the band’s past and reforms itself in tessellated pop tangles. “Source” turns political strife into a slow simmering roil of snaking guitars. The song, born out of Cooper’s observance of the 2024 UK asylum riots, lets daily discord and dissonance rain down, soak in and serve to pull collective action and community from even the most dire moments. Beyond the brittle jazz lines of Modern Nature’s past, the new works balance hazy sunshine with heady hues; bittersweet odes braided lovingly under the glow of stacked harmonies, entwined guitars, and a subtle rhythmic push. It’s the mark of a new era for the band. The new album, The Heat Warps, is out August 29th from Bella Union.
