Kronstad 23 – “Helgen”

More excellent new music from El Paraiso, this time bursting outside of the inter-label bubble that often tangles musicians in different tessellations. The label picks up Norwegian four-piece Kronstad 23, offering up the rhythmic, dynamic first single “Helgen” to set the stage for the band’s coming album. The single creeps in slow, a pulse of percussion and a methodical twining of guitar and bass. Atmospheres are smoky and still, a patient predator waiting to pounce. Then, sax seeps into the scene, flexing its melodies along the edges of the muscular track. The band slips between the seams of cosmic jazz, post-rock, and psych with a touch that’s puts them squarely in the sweet spot for fans of El Paraiso’s stable. The band’s latest record, Sommermørket, is out November 14th.
