Joe Ziffer – “Down The Drain / Soap Scum”

More goodness out of the South Hemi today with a new video from Joe Ziffer. His 2023 album, Long Shadows, was a favorite around here, flying largely under the radar with it’s rumpled pop charms. As a first taste of his next album, Ziffer offers up the double dose of “Down The Drain” and “Soap Scum,” two singles that slide seamlessly into one another. The first serves up some squashed aesthetics; a wobbly warbler that’s digging from the R. Stevie Moore and Michael Yonkers bins. Ziffer clears the smoke a bit on the second single, letting some country clarity creep into “Soap Scum,” the title track to his upcoming new LP. The song still retains an outsider’s ear, though, squeezing it’s sanguine strums through a chipped prism of pop. The new singles come complete with a high and lonesome video to match. The new album, Soap Scum, is out October 3rd. Check the video above!
