The Cords – “When You Said Goodbye”

One more indie pop confection for the day and it comes from the already packed new album from The Cords. Another Skep Wax slab (and Slumberland for us Stateside folks), this one’s tied up with Tulpa for indie pop debut of the year. The band has captured the effortlessly breezy sway of legacy janglers like Talulah Gosh, Tiger Trap, and Heavenly on past singles and they show no sighs of swerving on this one. The album closer, “When You Said Goodbye” is a bittersweet blur of strums and honeyed harmonies. It finds the sister duo at their most wistful, with melodies floating away on the breeze like dandelion seeds in the sun. The band’s debut is definitely one to watch, and if it isn’t already, it should be high on your list for 2025’s best. The eponymous debut is out September 26th.
