Winter McQuinn “Always Looking (feat. Dylan Young & Hot Apple Band)”
This one’s shaping up into a real powerhouse for 2025, a new solo album from Winter McQuinn that’s much less solitary than that designation would let on. The record finds McQuinn pairing with several of his favorite artists and this latest is the track that had me most piqued for its reveal. Backed by RSTB faves Hot Apple Band, McQuinn along with Dylan Young turn in a ‘70s -streaked cut that’s wonderfully woodgrained, piling the plush high on the shag rug with dreamy shades of Americana. Young takes the lead vocals this time around, lending a lived-in and shaggy feel to the track.
McQuinn recalls the track’s creation, ““I had the rhythm guitar idea and was using it in another song which I showed Jack to which he said “all due respect but we’re gonna come up with something better”. He then jumped on the piano and hammered out the part that went really well with my guitar. I jumped on the drums whilst he jumped on the bass and we finished the song that night. From there I sent the instrumental to Dylan Young and he replied two hours later with the finished vocal part (he’s a wild man!). I sent the song to Lewis Mosley (Hot Apple Band) after this and he wrote and recorded the lead guitar and flute parts of my dreams.” The new album, Where Are We Now? is out September 19th via Third Eye Stimuli Records and Born Losers Records (USA).
