Winged Wheel – “Beautiful Holy Jewel Home”

Another favorite returns to the site today with the second single from Winged Wheel. The band’s quickly followed their standout sophomore album Big Hotel with the noisier vortex of Desert So Green. First single “Speed Table” brought them out of the gaze and into the edge of the maelstrom. Now, “Beautiful Holy Jewel Home,” serves up a nice dose of tension. The track stretches, seethes, simmers against the wall of noise, but doesn’t quite cross the threshold. The band’s restraint is just as impressive as their ability to deluge the listener in damage. The new record finds Winged Wheel exploring the periphery, stalking the singes in our synapses. They’ve backed away from pop in favor of a discomfort that fits our era. The new LP, Desert So Green, is out January 9th from 12xU.
