Wet Tuna – “Apex of High”

Now that the dust of the holidays has settled, it’s time to clip back in, trying my best to stave off the cloud of dread already hung high over 2026. Wet Tuna hung a cloud of a different sort, slyly slipping out the second single from their upcoming new album, Vast, last week. “Apex of High” drops back into the crystal corral of their sound, feeling like the tunnel vision mirage of doo-wop, dipped in dub. A memory of a memory as seen through the glaze of honey and humidity that only the Tuna can serve up. The band is in fine form, and Vast is an album that’s hard to parse, but “AoH” might just be the right kind of encapsulation of it’s rubberized soul. The record plays with the pieces of the past, working in dream edits and dopamine droplets, snatching souvenirs of sound from eras past and present and stitching them together into a seamless slink. The new record is out February 13th from Three Lobed, but you can grab “Apex of High” now as an EP with two non-album tracks direct from the band before the full ship lands next month.
