The Pink Stones – “Real Sad Movies, Big Jet Planes”

The first taste of their new album signaled a shift towards more trad country ties and as the second lands, The Pink Stones keep the twang out of the cosmos, but they let the harmonies soar towards the clouds. “Real Sad Movies, Big Jet Planes” is a classic country weeper, hung heavy in pedal steel and heartbreak. The song ties into songwriter Hunter Pinkston’s newfound life in the air. Having hardly flown in his youth, the band’s growing popularity finds him more often contemplating crushing feelings 30,000 feet in the air. Like a litter of high altitude ballads, the song taps into the kind of disconnected melancholy that sets in where the air is recycled and the drinks are single serve. The band’s new album, Thank The Lord It’s The Pink Stones, is out September 19th from Normaltown records.
