The Peel – “Adam Disturbed a Bird”
Been a while since there was some proper folk and bluegrass on the site, but in the vein of favorites Magic Tuber Stringband or Black Twig Pickers, Ohio-based trio The Peel weave the traditional with the experimental for songs that reflect the dissonance of modern life with our natural surroundings. Draped in wooded hues, the first single from the album, “Adam Disturbed a Bird,” finds the trio’s strings sparring in a concert of voices. The ramble of banjo ripples like waters, the fiddle soars and streaks the clouds, while the guitar adds the warmth of the sun. There’s something celebratory about the song; each note pirouettes around the listener in vibrant shapes. It’s just the first step into the band’s world, a diorama of natural wonders that finds its way out August 29th from Sun Cru.
