The Cosmic Tones Research Trio – “Spirit of Truth”

As they near the East Coast and a run at Woodsist, a second single slips out this week from The Cosmic Tones Research trio’s 2nd album. “Spirit of Truth” burrows deeper into the band’s spiritual jazz landscapes. Lilting piano lines brush against the insistent tug of sax. The band’s ability to create an aura of intimacy is evident from the openness to room noise. No austere, antiseptic environment, the songs on the band’s eponymous LP let the listener sit in the corner of the studio, circled by tones that weave into the upholstery around them. Each piece is a parcel of calm that cools the listener to the marrow.
