The 1981 – “Soft Goodbye”
by Andy

Danny Boy Records has been on a power pop tear this year, already offering up pumped up gems from Autos and The Wind-Ups. Now the label lifts up Bay Area burners The 1981. The band let a little lushness into their debut from a few years ago, but “Soft Goodbye” finds them echoing greats from power pop’s early classes and ‘90s followers as well, crushing The Quick into The Blondes in a cut that’s cured in Summer sun. The song strings jangles into the mix, faking towards the current’s SF indie pop horizon before letting those big, crunchy riffs wipe away any tender tears. They sew it up with huge harmonies for a single that’s completely infectious. The new 7” is out August 29th from Dandy Boy.
