Sunjammer – “New Bird”
The new crop out of Tall Texan has brought a bunch of smiles lately. With albums on the way from RSTB faves Shinglers, Alien Eyelid, and Garrett T. Capps, its already set to be a superb fall. Also on the dock is a new album from Sunjammer, a new name around these parts, but the band has been a fixture in their San Antonio scene for a few years. With their latest, the band give grace to the Cosmic American shuffle with a new album that tips its hat towards the more languid end of the AOR ranch, filling first single, “New Bird,” with ‘70s organ swells and sun faded strums. A new video for the track serves up a radio ready snip, but the album version cooks at a full 6+ minutes. The band tips its head back and carves in the clouds, letting the extended runtime of the cut curl around the sky in unhurried loops tied up in jazz-brushed strums and crystalline keys. This one’s country for the jam journeymen, a slow hand hitter that comes on casual yet potent. The band’s eponymous new album is out November 14th from Tall Texan.
