Strawflower – “Strangers On A Train”

This EP slipped out rather quietly from West Coast faves Strawflower. The L.A. band’s blend of Americana ease with touches of power pop and country made for an excellent mix on their debut LP, and the band returns to work with the Taurus Rising crew for an equally endearing short form wonder. Produced again by Michael Rault, who also guests on keys, the EP also features Pearl Charles on harmonies, turning the four tracks here into a breezy, yet brief entry into 2025’s packed roster. The band let loose the bruised break up anthem “Sixteen Beers,” and the airy, country-fried closer “Everyone’s Gotta Lose” over the last few weeks, but now that the full EP’s out, it’s the opener “Strangers On A Train” that’s been hooked on my speakers for the duration of the Weekend. Splashed with a bit more pop than the rest, the opening cut has an exuberant bounce to it, making fine use of New Wave keys, fuzz growl, and salt washed harmonies. It’s a sunny single, but one with a melancholy heart. The cut opens the new EP, Last Slow Dance, out now!
