SML – “Chicago Four”

A second single swims out from the sophomore LP from SML. The West Coast ensemble, culled from ETA standouts Anna Butterss, Jeremiah Chiu, Josh Johnson, Booker Stardrum, and Gregory Uhlmann, stunned with their debut last year and they return to disassemble the preconceived notions of jazz. “Chicago Four” sputters and skips along burbling rhythms. Fed through a dot matrix dance of electronics, the cut layers horns and guitar stabs with the precision of sampled sonics. The band turns the track into a tumbled tapestry of sound that’s perfectly complimented by the kinetic video from Nespy5euro. The band’s new album, How You Been, is out November 7th from International Anthem.
