Seely-Jurgens Band – “You Were You Still b/w Take Me There”

Last year found a solid run of releases from Seely-Jurgens Band, an outfit that brings together Kyle Seely (Sheer Mag) and Justin Jurgens (Dust Star). The pair hold roots in long lost outfit Sirs, but they leave that band’s love of punk and math angles behind in favor of a sound that curls at the edges of country, ‘70s pop, and glam. There’s a weathered, cracked leather lean to the band’s singles from over the year, and they capped it off with another nice double shot right before the door closed on 2025. Opening with the rambling, soft breeze n’ silk threads of “You Were You Still,” the band grasps hold of their Americana instincts once again. Cut through with keys from River Nason, it’s a barroom corner stage burner. They crisp up the denim for the flip, a song that crackles with the glam ripple that’s been threading through their works. Edging past power pop into something a bit less defined, the song is a late ‘70s stew pot of anthemic choruses and coiffed riffs. If you’ve missed out on the band over the past year, there’s no better time to dive through the singles. They play out like the first sketch of an album that promises a fun ride.
