Psychedelic Source – The Initiation Outlaws (feat Go Kurosawa) 
Hungarian collective Psychedelic Source Records has long been kicking out the psych-swathed jams. The label breathes live improv, forming and reforming around tessellating lineups within their membership. In some regard the records revolve usually around guitarist Bence Ambrus, spreading far and wide and now beginning to bring in players from outside their local circle. For their latest, The Source brings in a most familiar name around these parts. Contacted by Go Kurosawa (Kikagaku Moyo), who’d heard them on US radio, the seeds of a session were laid. Kurosawa traveled to Hungary earlier this year with plans to record a jam session, an outing that lead to this sprawling collection of eight track torrents. The record burns through layers of the upper atmosphere to scrape the cosmic ceiling, a nocturnal vision that’s conjures something for longtime fans of the label.
In true spirit to The Source, the sessions find players swapping instruments, hitting the heat on a session that’s fluid and formidable. Kurosawa sets the pace behind the kit on two-part epic, “The Southern Emperor, pts. I&II.” Bence’s guitar shreds through the veil, continuing its melt well into the second pair of gems, “The King of Magic Colts and Wands,” improvs that search out more seance than singe. For the second LP, Go switches to bass on “The Hermit,” and lights up the the leads on two-piece closer “Three Golds Reward.” No matter the configuration, the band is in peak form. If you haven’t been following the Hungarian collective, this is an excellent entry point, while acting as a bonus for Guruguru Brain fans picking up the post-Kikagaku Moyo pieces. The session has been pressed to 2xLP both in the EU/UK (on Weird Beard) and available through Echodelick here in the US, though it’s pretty limited if you’re looking for a physical.
