Lo and Behold – “Born To The Victors”

I’m always a fan of what’s coming out of Gob Nation, the Southeast London collective / label that’s associated with The Tubs and Ex-Vöid folks. The label has a habit of digging out some of the best DIY and indie pop from their surrounding scene and the debut from Lo and Behold starts out strong. The solo project of Louis Harding (Belgrado, The Shitty Limits, Fatamorgana) finds the Barcelona songwriter digging into a very UK pop motif. First single “Born To The Victors” bubbles with an ‘80s joy that’s hooked into The Wake, Cleaners From Venus, and Monochrome Set. The cut has the kind of swagger and swoon that pushed New Wave, but a cold and clean aesthetic that dips into synth-pop’s austerity as well. Harding’s debut under the name, Onward Journey, is out September 22nd from Gob Nation and the first couple of singles are available as a very limited lathe cut 7”.
