Julianna Riolino – “Seed”

The first single from the upcoming new Julianna Riolino album set Echo in the Dust as one to watch, but the second cinches it as unmissable. “On A Bluebird’s Wing” turned the key and pushed the pedal, a soul-singed burner all the way through, but it’s follow-up, “Seed,” plays with dynamics, teasing the listener out with a torch song first half that’s unbuttoned and broken-hearted. The first three minutes would have been a killer cut in its own right, but as the song shifts into its second act, the tempos kick and Riolino turns it into a defiant country-soul stinger, draped in doo wop background vocals, pounding piano, and horn stabs. Riolino’s long been a pop charmer; from her work with Daniel Romano’s Outfit to her string of solo releases, but with Echo in the Dust she’s set to make one of her most essential outings yet. Get it on your list for the fall now! The new record is out October 4th from Moonwhistle Records.
