Joe Harvey-Whyte & Paul Cousins – “lift”

A really beautiful piece from Joe Harvey-Whyte (The Hanging Stars) and Paul Cousins accompanies the announcement of a collaborative full length out this fall. Harvey-Whyte’s already been in heavy rotation around here in his collaboration with Bobby Lee, but this adds another excellent offering to his 2025 catalog. The record was originally recorded for Joe’s radio show, The Dream Stream, which focuses on field recording, ambient country, and drone. Cousins has long been working with looped pieces and the show was conceived as a fugue state in which they’d create dissociative pieces using Harvey-Whyte’s pedal steel run through Paul’s system of tape loops. The whole session was cut down into eight tracks of euphoric bliss. Like SUSS scoped through Basinski’s eye, the first cut from the session reverberates around the headspace, slowly crumbling under its own weight. It’s a lovely look into what the pair has created. The new album, in a fugue state, is out October 17th from None More Records.
