Jeffrey Alexander + The Heavy Lidders – British Lidderin’

It’s barely past ten, but the bounty of Bandcamp Friday fodder has already packed the inbox with more than a few familiar faces. Longtime site faves The Heavy Lidders return today with a live one that’s well worth digging into. Fresh from their UK jaunt, which found The Lidders in their Milwaukee Psych Fest formation with Aaron Dooley on bass in place of Jesse Sheppard, the band brings home a wealth from the tape troves. A 3-CD collection of live cuts, the new record sees the band dig into familiar territory, expanding works form their first couple of records into bottomless pools of jams, while also offering up plenty of new teases that haven’t made it into the studio yet. The core four are augmented along the road by Gayle Brogan (Pefkin, Meadowsilver) on violin, with some new explorations that find the band dabbling in synth, sax, bowed cymbals, and ocarina. It’s a heady trip that’s an essential journey for any Lidders fan.
