Earth Tongue – “Ritual”
Making good on the glam-grit promises of their last album, New Zealand’s Earth Tongue returns with a new single today, produced by Ty Segall. The band slings fuzz with the best of ‘em, draping thick plumes of perfumed smoke over their ‘70s-stung psych-metal rumbler, “Ritual.” Earth Tongue has always had a flair for the dramatic, but here they ride the knife edge between prog, glam, and metal with a prefect mix of earnestness and tongue in cheek charm, giving the video treatment an exploitation edge that’s perfect for October. The band slips between Segall’s own singe and that of fellow South Hemi heavies O.R.B., though the grandiosity here brings to mind recent Midwest favorites Sweat as well. The video really ups the ante here, a perfectly ‘70s slasher that’s saturated in wonderfully winking ways, bringing to mind a newer class of horror acolytes films like the Suspiria remake or The Love Witch. The new single is out now from In The Red.
