Bitchin Bajas – “Skylarking”

Turn your back for one second and all the new music starts rolling out. While I was away, news of a new album from Bitchin Bajas arose and that’s the best kind of news to find on return. Building on a busy year for the band, with a year-end contender already on the books in their collaboration with Natural Information Society, the Chicago psych unit brings the Kosmiche cool on first single “Skylarking.” Clouds of synths and a nodding rhythm push the track until sax begins to scuff the surface, turning it from morning mediation into a late afternoon jazz-haze humidifier. The band should need no extra push for readers around here, having been a staple of the site for years, but this is some of the best yet from the psych vets and the upcoming album Inland should be high on your Autumn radar. The new album is out September 26th from Drag City.
