Benji Knight – “Arizona Snowstorm b/w Something is Down There”

A lovely surprise this morning from perennial favorites Curation Records brings together quite a few familiar names. The label vaulted out of the gate a few years ago with the debut from Pacific Range, the beloved but short-lived West Coast jam outfit who left a huge hole in the hearts of Cosmic American travelers in their wake. The band has had a few almost reformations, most notably on Stewart Forgey’s LP from last year. The debut single from Benji Knight (Beachwood Sparks, Fighter Jet, Farmer Dave & The Wizards of West) comes complete with an enviable studio roster that brings together almost a full Range lineup, alongside Farmer Dave Scher and Clay Finch (Mapache). The A-side slips toward a comfortable choogle, sand in its hair and sun in its strums. “Arizona Snowstorm” circles the country / Cosmic Americana canyon, balancing twang with heat quiver psych like Beachwood at their best. The b-side stretches out, feeling like Benji’s days in the Wizards of West definitely helped shape the band’s more exploratory jams. It’s driven like melancholy through molasses, a slowly evolving shimmer that unfolds over nearly 8-minutes. The new single is out now from Curation!
