Badge Epoch – “Empathetic Vertigo”
A while back, Max Turnbull from Badge Époque Ensemble shaved down the lineup for a solo stint as Badge Epoch. The record retained the full band’s balance of jazz, funk and prog but let Turnbull loose in the studio for a one man band excursion. He returns to the solo seat for a new run at the Badge Epoch name this year and sets the new record up right with a gloriously ‘70s stunner “Empathetic Vertigo.” Not one to keep things easy, the song comes in two forms; the full length freakout that employs some processed vocals amid the funk-stung singe, and another version that will be released as a limited 7” with vocals from Marker Starling. The latter also features non-LP solos from BÉE members Chris Bezant (guitar) and Karen Ng (saxophone). The album version comes complete with a vintage movie theater workup that captures the classic tones. The new album, Furry Worried Ape is out November 14th from Telephone Explosion.
