Alien Eyelid – “Vinegar Hill”

This one’s been simmering around the speakers here for some time and it’s great to see it starting to seep out into the wild. Austin faves Alien Eyelid have skirted just to the edges of the psych-country trends, always a bit more rooted in something classic rather than cosmic. For their latest, the band plays on notions of downtrodden desperation, but they also frame it with an air of progressive folk settled in between their desert-town dust. First single, “Vinegar Hill” pulls them as far away from the boot scuffs and blazing sun as ever, feeling like it might have a home among the ‘70s UK folk strands, lacing flutes and wandering strums into their arsenal. The album’s title track pushes the ten-minute mark, sending them as far over the horizon as ever. The cut also features psych legend and fellow-Texan Tom Carter on guitar, a ringing endorsement if there ever was one. The new album, Vinegar Hill, is the band at their most ambitious. It arrives September 5th.
