Alex ET – “Calico II”

A second single slips past the foam from Alex E.T., giving further shape to her upcoming new record for Curation. Less obfuscated than the first offering from Color of Strange, “Calico II” pairs the songwriter’s serpentine sweep with a harder edge. Where the last single was spun in the ‘90s cocoon of Mercury Rev and Opal, the latest lets a bigger rock ripple work its way through. The track builds on tension until it boils over in squalls of guitar, feedback, and flash that feel the thumbprints of Spiritualized and The Dream Syndicate in their clay. The single is paired with a kaleidoscopic new video that feels like an appropriate throwback. Color Of Strange is out September 26th from Curation Records.
