Abronia – “Gemini”

I’m excited to offer up another single from the upcoming Abronia album. The Northwest collective dive deep into the psych-folk coffers for “Gemini,” a rumination on ruin, and a beacon of hope. The song builds, creeping in slow over the rhythmic terrain and open atmospheres of it’s first half. As the song pushes towards peak, the dissonance scratches the surface, bursting through into the last moments filled with strings and brass to add to the band’s usual bouts of flute. The duality is purposeful, reflecting the song’s title. As the band’s vocalist/sax player Keelin Mayer notes, “I was originally inspired by the would-be dictator’s astrological sign, and the way he’s destroying the country. “I was also thinking about the duality that the astrological sign Gemini represents and the ecological collapse we are currently witnessing. Towards the conclusion of the track we emerge from despair and band together to look for a way out.” The song is nestled among some of the band’s best on their upcoming new album, Shapes Unravel, out February 20th from Feeding Tube/Cardinal Fuzz.
