The Prize – “From The Night”

Since I’m throwing praise toward Aussie punk today, it only seems fitting to drive the siphon to the source. The Prize raised expectations with a debut EP for Anti-Fade in 2022, and after years of waiting, they deliver a debut proper. First single, “From The Night,” lays down the blueprint; a melodic punk shock with more than a few fingers in the power pop cookie jar. The song pounces out of the speakers, shuddering with ten foot riffs, a sly smirk, and some slippery harmonies on the chorus. The song immediately feels like a cooked-in classic, the kind that’s been heating jukeboxes for the better part of the last forty years. The new record, In The Red, somehow slips through the fingers of the institution that shares it’s namesake, instead finding a home at Goner in the US and Anti-Fade at Home. The record is out September 19th.
