Shrunken Elvis – “K-House”

The arrival of Shrunken Elvis’ debut has been met with excitement around here. A long gestating project that seemed to only be available to Nashville locals for a long time, but now the band brings it to the turntable with a debut album out this Fall. The trio of RSTB faves (Spencer Cullum, Sean Thompson, Rich Ruth) push aside much of the folk, country, and jazz of their respective catalogs for an album of fusion, deeply indebted to the Kosmiche ‘70s, but as the shadows and shades on “K-House” will attest, there’s plenty of room for ‘80s synth shimmers as well. With a pounding beat beneath it, “K-House” glimmers like a cutout from Correlations, but there’s a specter of soundtrack work that rears its head as well, feeling like a distant cousin to Faltermeyer or Vangelis. Heads rejoice, this one is already high on the list of 2025 essentials. The band’s eponymous new album is out September 5th from Western Vinyl.
