Orcutt Shelley Miller – “A Star Is Born”

Another debut that’s been in mind for a little while sees the light today and I couldn’t be more excited. If you were lucky and caught some of the performances from this new trio, bringing together the talents of Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets On Fire), then you’re already prepared. If not, then strap in. The live performances set their schedule early, sets that were made to melt, the kind that leave a little structural damage on the way out of the venue. The band captures the energy live to tape, letting their 2024 show at LA’s Zebulon serve as a sample to all those who couldn’t appreciate their tumult live at the altar. The band picks up the power trio yoke, tying together the tectonic ache of the sunburned ‘70s, ‘80s outre rock rippers, and ’90s Japanese heaters. The new record, simply titled Orucutt Shelley Miller, and dressed in Silver Current’s bootleg chic, comes out September 5th on the venerable imprint, run by Miller.
